Les correspondants des journaux péruviens qui ont couvert les différents aspects
de la campagne navale de la Guerre du Pacifique (entre avril et octobre 1879) ont
joué un rôle important pour combler le besoin d´information de l´opinion
publique. Ils ont également permis la création de représentations et d’un
imaginaire collectifassociés aux archétypes comportementaux et aux vertus
patriotiques des Péruviens, en plus d’avoir construit l’altérité du Chili. Enfin, ces
écrits ont contribué à établir les normes de référence contemporaines et
ultérieuresservant à interpréter ce conflit.
