Cette recherche analyse “les défenseurs de l’intégrité nationale”, oeuvre peinte
par Alfredo Zalce en 1951, avec le support du Musée Michoacano et de l’Institut
National de Beaux Arts. L’oeuvre, que beaucoup de critiques d’art considèrent la
meilleure faite, est située sur le mur de l’escalier du Musée Régional Michoacano
et occupe une surface de 135 m². Le but de ce texte est l’étude de l’oeuvre, mais pas
seulement à partir de sa composition et sujet, sinon à travers la tendance
professionnelle de Zalce ; du contenu de ses oeuvres ; des idées et influences
picturales qu’il a reçu d’autres muralistes Mexicains et aussi d’autres artistes et
écrivains adhérents à l’Union d’Écrivains et d’Artistes Révolutionnaires (LEAR)
et à l’Atelier de la Graphique Populaire (TGP).
