Cet article analyse les tendances générales de l’historiographie cubaine, en ce qui
concerne aux différentes discussions que la première élection présidentielle à
Cuba a provoqué dans la mémoire historique à la fin du XXe siècle. Nous
envisageons deux éléments principaux qui interviennent dans l’explication de la
signification, dans les implications de l’élection présidentielle et dans l’établicement
de la République en mai 1902, par rapport auxquels se déroulent les oeuvres que
l’historiographie cubaine a dédié à ce sujet-là. Un élément rapporte la condition
hégémonique, à l’élan de l’expansion et à l’intérêt des États-Unis sur l’île. L’autre
élément analyse les efforts des actants sociaux et politiques cubains pour obtenir
l’indépendance et pouvoir commencer à travailler la conformation de la personnalité
nationale. Le parcours historiographique n’essaie pas de montrer une exhaustive
liste bibliographique, mais de fournir un bilan sur les principales directrices
politique-idéologiques des publications faites à Cuba au moment de l’arrivée de
la République.
