Luego de varios intentos de levantamientos fallidos, desatados a partir de 1814
con el regreso de Fernando VII a su trono absolutista, en 1820 triunfaría
nuevamente la revolución liberal de la mano de Rafael del Riego, y con ello no
solo se restablecería el régimen constitucional, sino que los destinos de los reinos
ultramarinos se dirigirían a su quiebre final. El caso novohispano es significativo,
pues un año más tarde Agustín de Iturbide tomó el modelo rieguista para lograr
la independencia del Imperio mexicano, instituyendo una nueva manera de
negociación: el pronunciamiento, el cual estaría presente a lo largo del sigloXIX
mexicano.
