Desde sus origenes perceptibles en las artes, la teoría literaria y su posterior avance hacia otras actividades sociales, filosofia y antropología, hasta su evocación critica como planteamiento historiográfico; desde sus preocupaciones primarias por la deconstrucción del lenguaje, la metodología y los problemas estructurales del discurso, los mitos y los símbolos; el posmodernismo ha señalado así nuevos referentes, variables de análisis y analogías comparativas en búsqueda de la verdad, ésta ha sido consecuentemente relativizada, convertida en crítica de valores y de métodos discursivos legitimadores y aglutinantes que, por otra parte, daban sentido a nuestra cultura occidental, "moderna".
