El estudio de la prensa en el siglo XIX, constituye un punto de partida para el
análisis y explicación de las distintas tendencias políticas e ideológicas que sustenta-
ron los diferentes grupos sociales en torno a los proyectos de sociedad puestos a dis-
cusión. Es igualmente importante destacar el papel que jugó, en este contexto, la pe-
queña burguesía ilustrada (pequeños propietarios, rancheros, comerciantes, médi-
cos, abogados, sacerdotes, etc.) responsables o editores de los periódicos que circu-
laron en Michoacán, convertidos en los más ágiles portavoces, difusores o impugna-
dores de las aspiraciones de los grupos detentores del poder político y económico.
