La autora, investigadora de la Universidad de Valladolid, España, hace un puntual registro de los estudios que sobre el siglo XVIII cubano han relizado un buen número de historiadores españoles entre los que destacan Juan Bosco Amores Carredano, Fernando de Armas Medina, Pablo Tornero Tinajero, Izaskún Álvarez Cuartero, María Dolores González-Ripoll y Consuelo Naranjo Orovio. El interés por el periodo dieciochesco comenzó a manifestarse desde 1950 y aumentó considerablemente entre 1962 y 1980. En los últimos años se han publicado importantes obras, cuyos autores son jóvenes investigadores que han propiciado nuevas líneas de investigación.A pesar de lo anterior, Parcero Torre llama la atención sobre temas que aún permanecen ignorados o que han sido insuficientemente analizados.
