Durante los últimos años, la historiografía en castellano se ha
enriquecido con nuevos volúmenes e interpretaciones relacionadas
con la navegación, los puertos, las fortificaciones y la piratería en
América. Consideramos que el interés sobre estos temas refleja la
necesidad de ahondar en ellos para entender y explicar de mejor
manera la historia marítima y la organización espacial de nuestros
territorios costeros. Muestra también la relativa escasez de trabajos,
por lo que es deseable que la producción historiográfica en este campo
se mantenga y se consolide.
