El trabajo de los “indígenas atalayeros”, el cual se reporta desde los
primeros años de la Colonia en Yucatán, aparece primariamente con
las características de un servicio personal, aunque después se encubre
como una prestación al rey, y posteriormente como una carga pública.
Sin embargo, bajo cualquiera de las denominaciones escondía de
manera abierta el usufructo que se hacía del trabajo de los indígenas.
Este servicio de repartimiento no ha sido considerado hasta ahora en
los estudios del servicio personal en México.
