En Colima el 17 de octubre de 1556, el encomendero de Aquixtlan,
Diego de Almodóvar, denunció a Alonso Sánchez de Miranda ante el
cura y vicario sobre un caso de autoridad inquisitorial. Según
Almodóvar, un español, Juan Fernández Ladrillo, que había llegado
a Colima procedente de México, estaba desempacando una carga en
la casa de Almodóvar con la ayuda del criado de Fernández Ladrillo,
Juan Domínguez. Francisco Gómez también había venido para ayudar
con la carga y mientras estaba llevando un tercio de aceite, éste se
cayó y quebró. Enfurecido, Fernández Ladrillo dijo “pese a Dios” o
tal vez “pese al cuerpo de Dios”.
