Lo conocí en el verano de 1981, hace 31 años. En esa ocasión, el
doctor François Chevalier había venido a México para dar la
conferencia inaugural del Coloquio “Después de los Latifundios”,
organizado por Heriberto Moreno en El Colegio de Michoacán.
A principios de julio de ese año, recibí una llamada de don Luis
González, en ese tiempo presidente de El Colegio de Michoacán,
para invitarme a un recorrido por la costa que harían varios amigos
con el doctor Chevalier. La idea era hacer una excursión por
las comunidades nahuas de Maquilí, Aquila, Ostula, Coire, Pómaro
y Maruata, que Chevalier había visitado en diciembre de 1947 y
mayo de 1948, con el doctor Ernesto de la Torre Villar.
