A lo largo de nuestra historia mexicana hay pocas instituciones tan em-blemáticas como los hospitales, instituciones que han sido estudiadas por legos y expertos desde diferentes perspectivas, sean éstas sociales, religio-sas, políticas, económicas o bien a partir de la historia de la medicina y de la salud. De hecho, representa una temática común desde el punto de vista de una historiografía tradicional de la medicina en la que los médicos han intervenido como autores de las instituciones hospitalarias en homenaje a los centros de formación y de práctica médica.
